How to Post a DJ Set
Instagram is testing 90 minute videos. Here is what that changes for DJs, which format fits which part of your night, and the copyright problem nobody mentions until a set gets muted.
The short version
- Instagram started testing long videos called Features, up to 90 minutes, with select US creators on 26 October 2026. Most accounts do not have it yet.
- A full set is the proof. Short clips are the reach. You need both, and Instagram is now building a bridge between them.
- "Clips as Reels" lets a creator link up to eight Reels to one long video, so a clip of the drop can send people to the whole set.
- Copyright is the real limit. A set built on other people's tracks can be muted or taken down, on Live and on uploads.
- Until Features reaches your account, post the set where it is safe to host, and use Reels to point people at it.
For years the advice for DJs on Instagram was simple: cut the set into short clips and post the best 30 seconds. That advice still holds. What is changing is that Instagram now wants the full set too, and is testing a format built to hold it.
Instagram now takes 90 minutes
On 26 October 2026, Instagram head Adam Mosseri and vice president of product Tessa Lyons announced a test of long videos called Features, up to 90 minutes each. It had already been tested with creators in Brazil, and it is now rolling out to select creators in the US, with wider access promised "in the coming months". Instagram pitches it for podcasts, vlogs and interviews. A recorded set fits the same slot.
Two related tests matter more for DJs than the headline:
- Clips as Reels. A creator can link up to eight Reels to one longer video. Someone who sees the drop in a Reel can jump straight to the full set.
- Series. Reels can be grouped under one topic, a little like a playlist on your profile. A run of clips from the same residency belongs in one.
This is a reversal. Mosseri said publicly that for a long time he was against long video on Instagram, and the app closed its last attempt, IGTV, in 2022. How long Features lasts depends on whether people watch it. Instagram has not said how, or whether, it will pay for long videos. Reports say it has offered some large creators deals to post them, but for a DJ the payoff is attention, not a payout.
A clip gets you discovered. A full set gets you believed. Instagram is finally building the link between the two.

Which format fits which moment
Each Instagram format does a different job for a DJ. Use them together, not instead of each other:
| Format | Length | Best for | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Story | 60 seconds a frame | Tonight's set times, the room filling up | People who already follow you |
| Reel | Up to 3 minutes | The drop, the transition, the crowd reaction | New people, through Reels and Explore |
| Live | As long as you play | Streams, studio sessions, Q and A | Followers who are online right then |
| Feature | Up to 90 minutes | The full recorded set, kept on your profile | Fans who want the whole night |
Feature is a limited test from October 2026. Most accounts do not have it yet.
The pattern that works is a funnel. Reels reach people who have never heard of you. The best ones send people to the full set. The full set turns a curious listener into someone who follows you and shows up next time.
The copyright problem
This is the part nobody puts in the announcement. Instagram matches the music in videos and Lives against rights holders' catalogues. A DJ set is, by design, an hour of other people's records. Depending on the tracks and the rights holders, a set can be muted, blocked in some countries, cut off mid-Live, or taken down, and repeated strikes can limit an account.
A longer format does not change that. A 90 minute Feature just gives the matching system 90 minutes to find something. What lowers the risk:
- Your own music. Your tracks, edits you have cleared, and music from labels or friends who have said yes in writing.
- Platforms licensed for DJ sets. Some streaming and mix platforms hold licences that cover DJ mixes. Host the full set there and use Instagram to send people to it.
- Short clips over full sets. A 30 second clip is less likely to be flagged than an hour, and it is the part that reaches new people anyway.
There is no trick that makes copyrighted music safe on Instagram, and tools that promise one put your account at risk. Treat any set full of label tracks as something that could be muted.
How to post a set, step by step
- Record clean audio. Take the recording from the mixer or your DJ software, not the phone microphone. Room audio is great for a crowd clip and painful for an hour.
- Film two angles. One fixed camera on you and the decks, one phone in the crowd. The crowd angle is where most of your Reels will come from.
- Cut the Reels first. Pull three to five moments: the drop, the best transition, the crowd losing it. Put the hook in the first two seconds.
- Post the full set where it can live. A Feature if you have access, otherwise the platform that suits your music and your rights situation.
- Link the two. With Clips as Reels, link the clips to the Feature. Without it, say where the full set is in the caption and keep the link in your bio.
- Pin and tag. Pin the best clip to your grid, and tag the party, the venue and the promoter, so their followers find it too.
A good set clip pinned to your profile also does a second job: it is the first thing a promoter sees. If you are working on bookings, read how to get DJ gigs next.
A set is only as good as who sees it
Long video does not fix the oldest problem on Instagram: posting is not the same as being seen. A perfect 90 minute set shown to 40 people is still shown to 40 people. The format decides what you can post. Your audience decides whether it lands.
That is the part we work on. We put your page in front of people who already follow DJs and producers with a sound like yours, every day, so the people who arrive are the ones who will press play on a full set. Real accounts, no bots, nothing bought. The monthly results show what that looks like across a month.
DJ set questions
Can you post a full DJ set on Instagram? Yes, as a Live or, if your account is in the test, as a Feature of up to 90 minutes. Copyright matching can still mute or remove a set that uses other people's tracks.
How long can an Instagram video be in 2026? Reels go up to 3 minutes. Features, in a limited test since October 2026, go up to 90 minutes. Story frames are 60 seconds.
Who can use Instagram Features? Select creators in Brazil and the US for now. Instagram says it will reach more accounts in the coming months.
How do I DJ on Instagram Live without copyright problems? Play music you own or have permission to stream. There is no setting or trick that makes copyrighted tracks safe on Live, and a Live can be cut off part way through.
Should I post full sets or short clips? Both. Short clips reach new people. The full set convinces the people who liked the clip. Link one to the other.
