Are Growth Services Legit?
Search for an Instagram growth service and the scene will tell you they are all a scam. That is not quite true, and the sloppy version of that advice costs musicians money either way. Some of these companies do nothing but resell inactive accounts. A few do real work. The difference is not the website, it is what they actually do to your account.
The short version
- "Growth service" covers four different businesses, and only one of them is worth paying for.
- Ask what the service does to your account. If it follows, unfollows, DMs or comments as you, that is the risky kind.
- Ask where the audience comes from. A service that will not name its method is hiding a bought list.
- A guaranteed follower number is the clearest sign you are buying accounts, not reach.
- Run the seven checks below before you pay anyone, us included. We are $97 a month and we fail one of them on purpose.
We build one of these services, so read this the way you would read anything written by someone with a stake. The checklist is the useful part. It is the same list we would hand a friend who was about to spend money on their artist page, and it rules out most of what gets pitched in DMs, including a few things that look respectable.
Four businesses wearing one name
Almost every argument about whether growth services are legit happens because two people are talking about two different products. These are the four you will run into, and they have little in common.
| What it is called | What it actually does | Legit? |
|---|---|---|
| Follower seller or SMM panel | Adds accounts to your follower list for a flat fee | No. You are buying a number |
| Follow and unfollow bot | Logs in as you and follows strangers hoping some follow back | Risky. Your account takes the hit |
| Engagement pod or DM bot | Comments and messages as you, in bulk | Risky, and the scene notices |
| Targeted reach | Puts your page in front of real people who follow artists like you | Yes, if it says how |
The first three buy or fake a signal. Only the last one is distribution, which is the thing an artist page is actually short of.
The reason the first kind keeps selling is that it works for a day. A number goes up, a screenshot gets taken, and nothing else happens. What follows is quieter than before, because Instagram reads how the people who already follow you react to your next post. A follower list full of accounts that will never watch anything makes every post you make look less interesting than it is.
An illustration, not a measured test. The mechanism is real: early reactions decide how far a post travels.
If the pitch is a number by a date, you are not buying growth. You are buying accounts.

The seven checks before you pay
Ask these in order. The first three disqualify most of the market, and you can ask them in a single message before anyone gets you on a call.
- What do you do to my account?
The answer should be specific. Following, unfollowing, commenting and mass messaging are all done as you, which means any consequence lands on your page, not theirs.
- Where does the audience come from?
A real answer names a method: fans of named artists in your genre, a city, a scene. "Our algorithm" and "our network" are not answers.
- Do you guarantee a number?
Nobody can guarantee how many strangers choose to follow you. A promised figure means a bought list, because that is the only way to hit it.
- Do I keep access and see the activity?
You should be able to open your own dashboard, see what is happening daily, and switch it off yourself.
- What happens if I cancel today?
Look for no contract and no exit fee. A yearly lock on a service you cannot inspect is how people end up paying for nothing for ten months.
- Will you say who this is wrong for?
Anyone who claims to work for every genre, every size and every goal is selling, not working. We are wrong for plenty of people, and the list is below.
- Is the price on the website?
A hidden price means the number depends on how much you seem able to pay. The real ones publish it.
Two more signals are worth more than any sales page: a service that asks about your genre and the artists next to you before it takes your money, and one that talks about reach rather than followers. Both suggest somebody has thought about distribution instead of counting.
What a real one never says
Fine to hear
- "We never post, comment or message as you." Your voice stays yours and your account is not acting on its own.
- "Here are the artists whose fans we would reach." A method you can judge, and change.
- "Growth depends on your page and your music." True, and the reason nobody honest promises a figure.
- "Cancel whenever, the followers are yours." Real followers do not go anywhere when you stop paying.
Walk away
- "10,000 followers in 30 days."
- "Send your password, we handle everything."
- "Our private network of accounts."
- A DM pitch with a price that drops when you hesitate.
The password question deserves one note. Any service that works on your behalf needs some form of access, so the useful question is not whether access exists but what gets done with it. A service that logs in to follow a thousand strangers uses the same access as one that only shows your page to people. The actions are what differ, which is why check one comes first.
How we do against the list
It would be strange to publish a checklist and skip our own score. We put your page in front of people who already follow artists with a similar sound, every day. Real accounts, nothing bought, no bots, and we never post, message or comment as you. You watch it happen in your own dashboard and you can switch it off yourself.
New fans in September 2026, from the September results page. A range, not a promise.
Where we fail check three, deliberately: we will not guarantee a number, because the people we reach decide for themselves. And we are the wrong pick for several kinds of artist. If you are not making electronic music, our method of reaching fans of similar artists works far worse. If you want a follower count by Friday, we are slower than buying one. If you want somebody to film, write and post your content, that is a different job and we do not do it. The month by month view is on the results pages, and the mechanics are in the FAQ.

What people actually ask
Are Instagram growth services against Instagram's rules?
Automated following, bulk messaging and bought followers all run against Instagram's terms on inauthentic activity, and accounts do get restricted for them. A service that only puts your page in front of real people is a different kind of activity from automating actions on your account.
Can a growth service get my account banned?
The kinds that act as you carry real risk, and the usual result is a temporary restriction on following or messaging rather than a ban. Ask check one before you pay, because that risk sits on your page and not on the seller.
Do Instagram growth services actually work for musicians?
Targeted reach works if your page is worth landing on and your music has somewhere to go. Bought followers never work, for any genre. The honest version is that a service can bring the right people to your page and cannot make them care once they arrive.
How much should an Instagram growth service cost?
Real ones publish a monthly price. Ours is $97 a month with no contract. Treat anything priced per follower as what it is, which is a list of accounts.
Is it safe to give a growth service my password?
Only when you know which actions it takes, you can see them, and you can turn it off yourself. Never hand access to anyone who will not answer what they do with it, and change the password the moment you stop.
Why does Reddit say every growth service is a scam?
Because most of those threads are about follower sellers and follow bots, which deserve it. The complaint underneath is consistent and fair: people paid, a number moved, and nothing in their actual career changed.
